Retail Operations & Buyer
Spread Market & Larder is seeking a Retail Operations & Buyer to assist in inventory management, purchasing, and day-to-day retail operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with great food and wine and has a strong operational mindset. The right candidate will focus on vendor relationships, ordering, systems, and retail staff support while maintaining a seamless and welcoming in-store experience.
We’re looking for someone who is naturally positive, highly organized, operationally minded, and excited about great products — from thoughtfully sourced groceries to wine.
This is a full-time, in-person role reporting directly to the owners.
Key Responsibilities
Operations, Inventory & Buying
Handle retail inventory, POS, and day-to-day back-end operations
Ordering and inventory for retail grocery and alcohol
Maintain purchase orders (POs) and vendor relationships
Monitor product quality and expiration dates
Manage paper goods and packaging materials
Contribute to new product discovery across grocery, wine, and retail goods with a strong point of view
Customer Experience
Work the register and provide an exceptional in-store experience
Educate customers on products and share brand enthusiasm
Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front-of-house environment
Coordination & Growth
Coordinate packaging and organization of kitchen goods
Support in planning/executing events
Help maintain and improve operational systems
Qualifications
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
Detail-oriented with a high standard for cleanliness and organization
Positive, team-oriented attitude
Confident self-starter who anticipates needs and takes initiative
Ability to lift and move product as needed
Experience
Food & beverage experience preferred
Foundational wine knowledge required
Certifications (provided by the business)
TN Server Permit
Responsible Vendor Permit
Responsible Manager Permit
TN Retail Manager Permit
